The Fifth Arab championship (Cup of the martyr Bassel Al Assad )

The Arab League performed a civil inauguration festival, which included a show of participating teams and the speech of Mr. Jack Tamer the prisident of the Lebanese and Arab Archery Federation. Then, the flags of Lebanon and the Arab & International Leagues have been raised, and, at then end, there was a fireworks show that lighted the night of the village of Jamhour near Beirut .

The inauguration was held in the presence of the Minister Hofnanian, and the representative of the army General Michel Sleiman, Colonel Elias Jalbout, the representative of the general director of the Security of the State, the Major General, Edward Mansour, the lieutenant Colonel Tony Saliba, the consultant at the Iraqi embassy Khaled Al Kalli, in his capacity of representing the Iraqi ambassador, the vice-president of the Arab League for the game, Kayss Saadoun Al Samara'i, the president of the Syrian League for shooting Mounzer Al Khatib, the president of the Lebanese League for Gymnastics Mohamad Makki, the president of the Badminton Khodr Farchoukh, the secretary of the Ping Pong League, Salim Al Hajj Nicolas, the president of the two Lebanese and Syrian League for Kick boxing, Abdul Rahman Al Rayess, and a crows of eminent personalities.

The green playground of the Notre Dame De Jamhour College where the champion took place, offers magic ambiance to the inauguration festival, considering that the League had prepared the playground before the championship to make it ready for the event, in virtue of the international measurements stated by FITA.

2-The participating teams

The representatives of four Arab countries participated in the championship, which are Syria , Egypt (Shooting Police League), Iraq and Lebanon . It is to say that this number is not too bad since there are just few Leagues that really practice this activity in the Arab world.

The League provided good residence for the teams in Rotana Hotel, located in Hazmieh, few minutes far from Beirut .

3- The Results

The championship has witnessed during its first day several shooting rounds, from 70 meters, within a competitive atmosphere, which reveals satisfied technical levels, due to the sessions training organized lately by the Arab League. Here are the first day results:

For Men :
1- The Lebanese Toufic Chahine, 578 points
2- The Lebanese Bilal Jezzini, 544 points
3- The Lebanese Ziad Mansour, 438 points
4- The Iraqi Mazen Charif, 436 points
5- The Iraqi Ouday Jawad Kazem, 428 points
6- The Iraqi Toufic Kazem, 420 points
7- The Syrian, Abdo Bajinka, 320 points
8- The Syrian Ziad Sabboura, 200 points
9- The Egyptian Mahmoud Hassan, 190 points

For Women :
1- The Iraqi Chaza Al Matchar, 240 points
2- The Iraqi Afrah Abdel Kader Abbas, 225 points
3- The Lebanese Mirna Awaly, 205 points
4- The Iraqi Enkine Leder, 180 points
5- The Lebanese Rola Awaly, 130 points.

Al Matchar, Abbas, Leder, ( Iraq ) and Mirna Awaly- Lebanon , have been qualified for final round.

When the competitions of the second day finished, the final classification for the shooters has been established as follows:

For Men :
1- The Lebanese Toufic Chahine, 93 points
2- The Lebanese Bilal Jezzini, 84 points
3- The Lebanese Ziad Mansour, 74 points

For Women :
1- The Iraqi Chaza Al Matchar, 87 points
2- The Iraqi Afrah Abbas, 53 points
3- The Lebanese Mirna Awaly, 51 points.

The Egyptian shooter, Mahmoud Hassan Ahmad, retired from the championship due to an injury. The appeal committee has been constituted of the vice-president of the Arab League, Kayss Saadoun Al Samara'i, and the General secretary of the Arab League Abdul Kader Antar and Lina Farah.

The president of the technical committee, the international judge, Rola Tamer has run the arbitration, with the assistance of the arbitrator Ali Al Mikdad and the shooting director Fathi Fawaz.

4- The closing festival

 The closing festival took place in the presence of the president of the Notre Dame de Jamhour College, Father Salim Daccache, the Vice-president of the Arab League for the game, Kayss Saadoun Al Samara'I, the secretary general of the two Lebanese and Arab leagues Abdul Kader Antar, and the international judge Rola Tamer and the manager of the Champion Ship Philippe Tamer. The medals have been distributed to the winners.

5- The media covering

 The Arab championship has been very well promoted, since the Lebanese and Arab magazines have covered this event by writings and true pictures. Besides, some sport Arab satellite channels have covered this event (You will find hereby annexed some samples of the media covering for the news of the fifth Arab championship of crossbow.
